Plan Your Trip

Located on the Owl Route, off the N9 in the Eastern Cape, approximately 52.2km from Graaff-Reinet, about a 53-minute drive north. The nearest airport is in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport, 265km away, about a 3.5-hour drive. It is therefore essential that you carefully plan your journey to the Owl House for you to be able you embrace everything else that is on offer in and around the town and region.

Its location demands that you book your stay for at least a few days. This applies to local and international tourists, especially those traveling on the N9 on your way to your holiday destination. Other fascinating places to visit in the town, include the Kitching Fossil Exploration Centre and the Bushman Heritage Centre. All in walking distance. You are encouraged to not only embrace everything that Helen Martins Owl House, her homestead and camel yard have to offer, but that you consider exploring all other tourist attractions in the area, especially Graaff-Reinet.

The Valley of Desolation is in the Camdeboo National Park (see website below) just a short drive from Graaff-Reinet. The Owl House wishes to thank @nieubethesdatourism and @graaffreinettourism for their continued support, from a marketing and communication perspective. To make the most of your planned stay (a memorable one), follow their social media sites and visit their websites for updated visitor’s guides, restaurants, pubs and planned events during the year.
