Crafters Precinct
The crafters outside the Owl House are more than vendors—they are custodians of a living tradition. Their work extends Helen Martin’s and Koos Malgas’s legacy by ensuring that the Owl House remains a place where art is continually made, shared, and reimagined, , keeping Nieu-Bethesda’s outsider art spirit alive.
50 Years Commemoration
To commemorate the 50th anniversary since the passing of Helen Martins in 1976, on Saturday 28 November 2026 the OHF will inaugurate a memorial sculpture and garden at the Owl House in Nieu Bethesda and mark officially the installation of two large sculptures on the roadside of the Owl Route between Graaff Reinet and the town.
Memorial Garden
The garden is intended to be completed in time for the 50’th remembrance of Helen Martins passing. It is conceived as a space shaped by memory, imagination, and the magic of Helen Martins’ Owl House. This space is therefore designed to become a gentle, poetic landscape where texture, light, and nature come together to create moments of reflection and renewal.
